Pause, Reflect, Restore: Solstice Magic
Did you know the word solstice comes from the Latin solstitium, meaning “to stand still.” How beautiful is that and if you know me you know I don’t stand still very often unless I am doing Qigong. This longest, darkest night is a reminder to pause, reflect, restore, and align with the divine rhythm of life.
The Winter Solstice on December 21st, is the longest night of the year and a turning point where darkness begins to give way to light. It’s a sacred pause, a moment to honor stillness and trust the cycle of renewal.
For me, this time of year is a gift. I love the deep, quiet nights lit by candlelight and moonlight. It’s the perfect season to slow down, recalibrate, and nurture the energy that sustains us.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to honor the Solstice:
- Pause and Restore
Nature encourages us to slow down, yet the holidays often pull us in every direction. Be kind to yourself. Retreat inward, even if only for a moment. Light a candle, sit quietly, or simply breathe deeply. Restoration is your gift to yourself—and it’s powerful. - Sleep Deeply
The Solstice reminds us to pause and embrace stillness. Treat yourself to long, luxurious sleep (at least 8 hours). Slip into a warm bath by candlelight, go to bed early, and let your body recharge fully. Deep rest fuels the return of your inner light. - Celebrate the Season
Before there were holiday lights, people gathered to celebrate the return of the sun. This season is about thoughtful, simple acts of joy—baking cookies, feeding the birds, or hanging evergreen garlands to honor life’s resilience. Even a quiet cup of tea by the fire can feel like a celebration. - Clear Space for Light
This is a powerful time to let go of what no longer serves you. Clean a cluttered space, donate items you don’t use, or release old habits. When we clear the old, we invite fresh energy and light into our lives. - Plant Seeds for the Future
As the light begins to grow, let your dreams take root. What do you want to create in the coming year? Take time to reflect and let your intentions unfold naturally. Winter is for foundation building—let’s honor that slow, steady growth.
And speaking of foundations, I’m so excited about an adventure coming up that promises to renew your soul…
