Hawaii Swimming, SUP, Yoga & Adventure Retreat

Big Island, Hawaii
Cost: $3250
April 20-26th, 2024

Transport yourself from winter to spring in the magical island waters during our women’s retreat in Hawaii. This enchanting retreat held at tranquil Hookena Bay will nourish and relax every cell of your body. A full week of yoga, ocean swimming with dolphins, kayak or stand-up paddleboard, hiking to sacred sites, journaling, creativity, and quiet moments on the beach will enable a deep peace and restoration – island style.

This is Hawaii the way it used to be: rural, charming, and dripping with breathtaking beauty. Our home for the week is Hale Kai, a surreal eco-yoga retreat center on the secluded waters of Hookena Bay. Hand-built, artful open-air bungalows are set in a luxuriant garden of tropical fruits and flowers, and connected by footpaths. Wake to birdsong in the palms, watch whales pass from the yoga pavilion, swim with the dolphins, and drift to sleep to the lullaby of ocean waves. Fresh cuisine, based on the islands’ bounteous produce of fresh fish, fruits, and vegetables, balances gourmet satisfaction with wholesomeness. Specially prepared by our chef David, meals are enjoyed “al fresco” on the ocean-view veranda.

Treat yourself to this tantalizing week of relaxation, with daily yoga practice, guided journaling, and creative exercises including our trademark Heart’s Desire process, designed to clarify your dreams and unleash your potential. We’ve even put together a curated list of books perfect for our women’s retreat in Hawaii. We’ll drench our senses in the island paradise, taking leisurely ocean swims with turtles, dolphins, and whales, and snorkeling the coral reefs. Wrapping ourselves in the luxury of nature, we’ll kayak or hike to the sacred sites in our area.

We provide expert guidance and instruction during all activities, supporting all ability and experience levels. Take time for yourself, in the company of new friends. Come play with us on the Big Island of Hawaii!

“The 2021 Hawaiian Women’s Quest was the perfect getaway I needed in order to help me increase the positivity of my life’s journey. Colleen is so excited to share the unbelievably beautiful life, natural surroundings, people, and fun activities of this part of Hawaii. Her positive energy is infectious, entertaining, and genuine. She does an amazing job making sure all the activities can be for all no matter what your skill or tolerant level is. The great part of the whole quest was that in the slew of enjoyment: dolphin swimming; sunsets; paddle boarding; several types of yoga and meditations; whale sightings; eating fresh and healthy foods; meeting other awesome women; sharing life stories; I was able to personally conquer some emotional scars and grow from within to find some clear direction, self confidence, and acceptance for the next steps in my life.” – Kate from Indiana, Hawaii 2021, 1st Women’s Quest Experience

What to Expect:

Awaken to the scent of a plumeria-infused breeze wafting through your bungalow, and indulge in a mug of Kona coffee or herbal tisane as the iridescent dawn spreads over the ocean. As you like, take a morning jog or hike up to the rim of the cliffs, or stroll a few meters to the beach for your first swim of the day in our bay. If the dolphins are in, it’s a magical treat!  Breakfast follows.

After breakfast we’ll have a group outing to the beach for swimming, kayaking, or snorkeling; or a day trip to one of our favorite spots on the island: the ancient site of City of Refuge, the undersea paradise of Honaunau, kayaking to the Captain Cook Monument. Lunch is served on the terrace at Hale Kai, or we’ll take a picnic lunch. After lunch, you’re free to take a nap, relax in the fabulous silk cushions on the veranda, or languish in a shady hammock with a good book. We’ll cap off the day with either an energizing or restorative yoga class or hip shaking hula class with Puna, depending on our earlier activities, all in the open yoga pavilion overlooking the ocean. After a sunset dinner, featuring the sumptuous fresh cuisine, we’ll gather for our inspirational talks by our staff, relax in an after-dinner circle with guided sharing and lots of laughter before letting the sound of the waves lull you to sleep under the starry velvet sky.

What are the accommodations?

Hale Kai (ocean house) is an oceanfront retreat in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Described by guests as a work of art, Hale Kai offers beautiful open-air living in a peaceful and inspirational environment about 500 feet from the Pacific Ocean. The Balinese style Yoga space, kitchen, and accommodations blend with the spirit of old Hawaii to create a magical place for our retreat.

There are many bedrooms in the main house and in the screened bungalows located around the main house. Most of the bedrooms are for two people, however, there are some single occupancy bedrooms. There is a price difference (see below) if you choose to be in a single room with your own bath. There are plenty of bathrooms, some exclusive to the bedrooms. But, our favorite is an outdoor shower tucked inside the lush, Hawaiian flora…it will be your favorite too.

Hale Kai is not your normal retreat center. It is a sustainable retreat center that is off the grid. They use solar energy so the showers are warm during the day when the sun is out. There are two showers that are warm 24 hours a day. We will spend the week very close to nature and relax in the rhythm of nature. You will not be able to use hair dryers (but you won’t need it)

What day does the retreat starts and ends?

Plan to arrive in a day early, the retreat will officially start on April 20th at 8 am.

On the 26th it ends after lunch, we tend to hang out at Hale Kai until around 2 pm, then go into Kona to shop, see the turtles, and eat. We advice you to leave on the 27th

What will the food be like?

We will offer healthy meals at the retreat with fresh fruits and vegetables. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions. There will be 2 lunches and 2 dinners that are not provided by us so plan to bring some cuisine cash for those times.

Do I have to have experience with yoga?

The retreat is open to all levels of yoga experience, from fresh beginners to the practiced yogini, as each will practice according to each individual’s level.

Do I need to swim regularly to attend this Hawaii Retreat?

No, but you do need to be comfortable in the water. There are flotation devices available for rent. Also available for rent are masks, fins and snorkels. We provide levels of support from our staff for everyone from the non-swimmer to the experienced swimmer. Sea kayaking and stand up paddle board have been a favorite for all!

How many participants will the yoga retreat include?

The women’s retreat in Hawaii is small and intimate. It is limited to 14 Women.

What will a typical day be like at this retreat?

Yoga for every skill level, great food, running or walking, exploring, swimming and visiting with magical sea creatures, special programs and free time. There will also be a great massage therapist joining us who will be available for you to book appointments with for an extra cost.

What will the weather be like?

The temperature at Hale Kai, sea level, ranges from a high of 80 degrees and a low of 62 degrees. Hawaii has different climate zones and ecosystems since it begins at sea level and rises to 14,000 feet. We will spend most of our time at sea level, but when packing, do plan to layer up for our visit to the volcano.

How will I get to Hale Kai from the airport and back?

Women’s Quest will create a shuttle for $100 each way.  We will organize people together to pick up everyone at their hotels on Sunday morning OR you can also rent a car. We will be coming in a day early on April 19th (hotel to be arranged) so that we can do an fun paddle excursion on April 20th. After that, we will take everyone to the South End of the Island to Hale Kai.

Am I in good enough shape to do the retreat?

We adapt to all levels of fitness. Groups are formed according to each woman’s level of fitness, experience, and desire to challenge themselves. We do suggest that you start a training or workout program before you come so that you can get the most out of the retreat. Your training does not need to be a hard-core program…just get out and PLAY and BE ACTIVE several days a week.

Do I have to participate in everything on the schedule?

You do not need to participate in everything; you can pace yourself so that it is the perfect amount of activity for you. We fully support you in doing as much or as little as is right for you in the moment. The schedule gives you a sense of the flow of each day. It is subject to change, depending upon the needs of the group, weather, etc. We will go over the schedule each day at breakfast.

What is the average age on the Hawaii retreat?

We have a wide range of women who attend our retreats, from 15-70 years young. Each retreat will vary but Hawaii is for EVERYONE. Last year we had a wonderful Mother/Daughter pair that attended.

What if I am coming alone?

The majority of the women who attend our retreats come by themselves. Hawaii is a safe and easy to travel as a single female. Although you may come alone, you will leave the retreat with new, lifelong friends!

Tell me about the staff

The staff is an inspiring and spirited group of women!!! You will have the chance to play with women who are both phenomenal athletes and articulate teachers. The high staff-to-participant ratio allows the opportunity for individual guidance, safe supervision for all activities and personal attention to your needs.

When does the retreat begin and end?

The Women’s Quest Hawaii begins on April 20th at 8:00 a.m. The retreat ends on April 26th morning after breakfast (we try to accommodate everyone that leaves on night flights with something fun to do that day).

As a small company Women’s Quest is unfortunately not able to provide refunds of payments for retreats cancelled by Women’s Quest due to the Covid pandemic. This is primarily due to our financial commitments with the various retreat venues. As a result, in the event Women’s Quest cancels or reschedules a retreat due to Covid-19 Women’s Quest will apply all payments to the rescheduled or following year’s retreat, or to any other Women’s Quest retreat of your choosing through the end of the next year after the year in which the retreat was cancelled by Women’s Quest.  Because of the unforeseen and unprecedented circumstances of the outbreak, this policy supersedes earlier policies.

Symptoms During the Retreat. In the event you develop any Symptoms during the retreat you must immediately leave the retreat and follow protocols outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and all local regulations. We understand this may result in you incurring significant expenses associated with separate accommodation and travel, however, you understand these expenses are not the responsibility of Women’s Quest and must be incurred by you. You agree to be fully honest with Women’s Quest staff in regard to any Symptoms you may develop and agree to comply with a request by Women’s Quest staff to depart as determined by Women’s Quest staff in their sole discretion. Purchasing Travel Insurance

We highly, highly recommend you get travel insurance to cover your expenses and losses, in the event you cannot make the Women’s Quest retreat for any reason or if  you test positive or come down with Symptoms prior to the retreat, develop Symptoms during the retreat, or cannot return home due to Covid related issues.  We recommend getting insurance that covers the cost of your trip, medical care while at the retreat, and coverage to pay for the necessary quarantine period if you test positive or come down with Covid.  Please remember, if you have to cancel your trip in the unfortunate event you come down with Covid, test positive, or suffer Symptoms prior to or during the retreat and need to leave, Women’s Quest cannot provide a refund since we have to pay your trip expenses well ahead of time.

If you are concerned about travel and the changing environment in which we are living irrespective of your Covid status, we recommend getting travel insurance that allows you to cancel for any reason. This coverage is more expensive, however, may provide you with the coverage and flexibility you desire.

Irrespective of the travel insurance you get, please make sure you talk to a travel insurance agent prior to buying any insurance and make sure you have the coverage you desire and that the policy will cover trip cancellation, medical expenses and trip interruption due to Covid.
