A Mother’s Day Reflection
Women Supporting Women… and Loving the World Back to Life
This Mother’s Day, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it truly means to be a mother.
Whether you have children, care for animals, nurture plants, support a partner, hold space for friends, protect the earth, or simply carry compassion in your heart…
We are all mothers in some way.

There is something deeply innate within women — a natural instinct to nurture, protect, heal, encourage, and care for life itself.
And maybe now more than ever… the world needs that feminine wisdom.
I jokingly said this winter that Mother Earth must be going through menopause because Colorado barely got any snow and seemed to be having one long hot flash.
But underneath the joke is something deeper.
The Earth is speaking to us.
And perhaps asking us to wake up.
Not in fear.
Not in anger.
But in love.

Sometimes I ask myself:
What would the Divine Mother do right now in our world?
I imagine she would open her arms as wide as the sky.
She would take in the pain, division, grief, fear, and suffering… and somehow transmute it into compassion.
Into kindness.
Into love.
This Mother’s Day, I’m imagining women all across the planet standing with their arms stretched wide — sending loving kindness to all beings.
To the beautiful.
To the messy.
To the hurting.
To the hopeful.
To the broken places in ourselves and in the world.
Not judging it.
Not hardening against it.
Just loving it all up.

Years ago, when I first started Women’s Quest, a Hopi elder told me something I have never forgotten:
“Women will save the planet.”
At the time, I didn’t fully understand it.
But after 33 years of watching women reconnect to their strength, joy, intuition, courage, and compassion… I think I do now.
Every time a woman heals herself, she affects everyone around her.
Her children.
Her partner.
Her community.
Her animals.
Her friends.
One awakened woman gives other women permission to wake up too.
And that ripple travels farther than we can possibly imagine.

So this Mother’s Day, let’s celebrate all women.
The mothers.
The daughters.
The sisters.
The caretakers.
The nurturers.
The fierce protectors of life.
Women supporting women.
Women loving the Earth.
Women remembering their power.
Because perhaps changing the world doesn’t begin with something massive.
Maybe it begins quietly…
With one woman choosing love over fear.
And then another.
And another.
With love and kindness,
