Stowe Vermont
by Colleen Cannon,
I remember the first time I went to Stowe Vermont with Jacqueline (Women’s Quest staff and real live wonder woman) for her 30th birthday party. I felt like I was in a walking postcard the whole time. VVermont is simply beautiful but it is more than that. Here are some of the reasons why I love this magical state:
The Terrain: Mount Mansfield is located in Stowe and is one of the most amazing peaks in the area.  The hike is a challenge, but the summit is totally worth the workout.  The 360 view from the highest mountain in the state is something you won’t want to miss!  This hike is just one of many in the area.  Many of the well maintained trails lead to beautiful lakes where you can take a refreshing dip before you head back down.  You can also choose to hike part of the Long Trail, which is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States and spans the whole length of Vermont.  There are also numerous (too many to count) mountain bike trails in the area including the Stowe Recreational Path that was voted the “Most Beautiful Bike Path In America”.  These paths and trails offer terrain for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders.  There is something for everyone in this fantastic Vermont location!
The Food: This is the home of cows and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream!  They make it right down the road from Stowe and offer tastings and tours.  You can mingle with their cows and I have to admit, during that first visit to Vermont we went for ice cream more then once!  Maple syrup is also a staple in Vermont and there are numerous local farms that produce this liquid gold!  Nebraska Knoll Sugar Farm is one of our favorite.  If you think you can’t taste the difference from other maple syrups, come try it for yourself!  I can’t forget to mention that Vermont is the first state to enact a law which mandates the labeling of all GMO food. It relaxes me to know the food is good.
Want to visit Vermont?  Women’s Quest offers a retreat every year in September when the leaves are beginning to change.  We think that it is the most beautiful time of year! You can find more information at www.womensquest.com.
