I have been an athlete my whole life and therefor my hamstrings are super tight. When I go into a yoga class I have to go into the back because I don’t bend very well and I am normally a downward camel instead of a downward dog. At first I was so frustrated and I thought I could not do yoga, until I learned that almost everything I incorporate into my life is actually YOGA.
Here are 4 of my favorite forms and you can see how they overlap into your life
1) Hatha yoga, a system of physical postures and movements, or asanas, whose higher purpose is to purify the body, giving you awareness and control over your internal states and getting you ready for meditation.
2) Raja yoga, Raja means “royal,” and meditation is the focal point of this branch of yoga.
*I started to meditate 35 years ago when I was racing as a triathlete
3) Karma yoga, or the path of selfless service and action (The staff of Women’s Quest gets to practice this every day). Karma yoga can be applied to everything you do: from the most trivial, ordinary tasks to greater, more challenging things. Acting without being attached to the outcome
Show UP, Pay Attention, Do your Best and Don’t be attached to the outcome!
4) Bhakti yoga is the Yoga of the Heart, and describes the path of devotion. Bhakti is seeing the divine in all of creation and becoming one with everything. The path of bhakti provides us with an opportunity to cultivate acceptance and tolerance for everyone we come into contact with. BE ONE WITH EVERYTHING
So the next time you think you are NOT GOOD AT YOGA
Relax, Take a deep breath, Smile, Open your heart, Help a stranger and know that YOU are practicing yoga!
