Transport yourself from winter to spring in the magical waters of Hawaii. This enchanting retreat held at tranquil Hookena Bay will nourish and relax every cell of your body. A full week of yoga, ocean swimming, kayaking, hiking, journaling, creativity, and quiet moments on the beach will enable a deep peace and restoration – island style.
This is Hawaii the way it used to be: rural, charming, and dripping with breathtaking beauty. Our home for the week is Hale Kai, a surreal yoga retreat center on the secluded waters of Hookena Bay. Hand built, artful bungalows are set in a luxuriant garden of tropical fruits and flowers, and connected by footpaths. Wake to birdsong in the palms, watch whales pass from the yoga pavilion, swim with the dolphins, and drift to sleep to the lullaby of ocean waves. Fresh cuisine, based on the islands’ bounteous produce of fresh fish, fruits, and vegetables, balances gourmet satisfaction with wholesomeness. Specially prepared by David who owns Hale Kai, meals are enjoyed “al fresco” on the ocean-view veranda.
Treat yourself to this tantalizing week of relaxation, with daily yoga practice, guided journaling, and creative exercises including our trademark Heart’s Desire process, designed to clarify your dreams and unleash your potential. We’ll drench our senses in the island paradise of Hawaii, taking invigorating exploratory ocean swims with turtles, dolphins, and whales, and snorkeling the coral reefs. Wrapping ourselves in the luxury of nature, we’ll kayak, hike the sacred sites, and explore Volcano National Park.

What to Expect:
Awaken to the scent of a plumeria-infused breeze wafting through your bungalow, and indulge in a mug of Kona coffee or herbal tisane as the iridescent dawn spreads over the ocean. As you like, take a morning jog or hike up to the rim of the cliffs, or stroll a few meters to the beach for your first swim of the day in our bay. If the dolphins are in, it’s a magical treat!
Breakfast follows, with a vibrant fruit salad, a hearty egg dish, fresh baked goods, yogurt, teas, juices, and cereals. Then we’ll have a group outing to the beach for swimming, kayaking, or snorkeling; or a day-trip to one of our favorite spots on the island: the ancient site of City of Refuge, the undersea paradise of Honaunau, hiking to a hidden beach, or kayaking to the Captain Cook Monument. Lunch is served on the terrace at Hale Kai, or we’ll take a picnic lunch. After lunch, you’re free to take a nap, relax in the fabulous silk cushions on the veranda, or languish in a shady hammock with a good book. We’ll cap off the day with either an energizing or restorative yoga class, depending on our earlier activities, in the open yoga pavilion overlooking the ocean. After a sunset dinner, featuring the sumptuous fresh cuisine of our gourmet chef, we’ll gather for an inspirational talk by Hawaiian shaman Kalani, a creative exercise, or our unique Heart’s Desire process with Colleen. Relax in an after-dinner circle with guided sharing and lots of laughter before letting the sound of the waves lull you to sleep under the starry velvet sky.

What are the accommodations?
Hale Kai (ocean house) is an ocean front retreat in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Described by guests as a work of art, Hale Kai offers beautiful open air living in a peaceful and inspirational environment about 500 feet from the Pacific Ocean. The Balinese style Yoga space, kitchen, and accommodations blend with the spirit of old Hawaii to create a magical place for our retreat.
There are many bedrooms in the main house and in the screened bungalows located around the main house. There are some bedrooms, which are single occupancy, and some that are shared occupancy. There is a a price difference (see below) if you choose to be in a single room with your own bath. There are plenty of bathrooms, some exclusive to the bedrooms. But, our favorite is an outdoor shower tucked inside the lush, Hawaiian flora…it will be your favorite too.
Hale Kai is not your normal retreat center. It is a sustainable retreat center that is off the grid. They use solar energy so the showers are warm during the day when the sun is out. There are two showers that are warm 24 hours a day. We will spend the week very close to nature and relax in the rhythm of nature. You will not be able to use hair dryers (but you won’t need it)

What will the food by like?
We will offer delicious, organic healthy meals at the retreat with fresh fruits and vegetables. We will make sure there is organic protein at each meal if you are Paleo. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions. There will be 2 lunches and 2 dinners that are not provided by us so plan to bring some cuisine cash for those times.
Do I Have to Be Experienced At Yoga?
The retreat is open to all levels of yoga experience, from fresh beginner to the practiced yogini, as each will practice according to individual need.
Do I need to be a swimmer to attend this Retreat?
No; however, you will need to know how to swim and be comfortable in water. Sea kayaking and stand up paddleboard will also be an option on some days which has been a favorite for all!
How Many participants will the Retreat include?
This Retreat is cozy. It is limited to 14 Women.
What will a typical day be like at this Retreat?
Yoga for every skill level, great food, running or walking, exploring, swimming and visiting with magical sea creatures, special programs and free time. There will also be a great massage therapist joining us who will be available for you to book appointments with for an extra cost.
What Will the Weather Be Like?
The temperature at Hale Kai, sea level, ranges from a high of 80 degrees and a low of 62 degrees. Hawaii has different climate zones and eco-systems because it begins at sea level and rises to 14,000 feet. We will spend most of our time at sea level, but when packing, do plan to layer up for our visit to the volcano. We might have a rain shower or two.
Am I in good enough shape to do the retreat?
We adapt to all levels of fitness. Groups are formed according to each woman’s level of fitness, experience, and desire to challenge themselves. We do suggest that you start a training or workout program before you come so that you can get the most out of the retreat. Your training does not need to be a hard-core program…just get out and PLAY and BE ACTIVE several days a week.
Do I need to be an athlete to attend this retreat?
The retreat is open to all levels of yoga, swim and hammock experience.
We feel the definition of an athlete is one who enjoys being active on a regular basis – not a competitive warrior. As mentioned above, advanced swim skills are helpful for this retreat. We can adapt to all levels in yoga and relaxation! We have a wonderful supporting staff to help you every step of the way and all sessions will be made accessible for all participants.
Do I have to participate in everything on the schedule?
You do not need to participate in everything; you can pace yourself so that it is the perfect amount of activity for you. We fully support you in doing as much or as little as is right for you in the moment. The schedule gives you a sense of the flow of each day. It is subject to change, depending upon the needs of the group, weather, etc. We will go over the schedule each day at breakfast.
What is the average age on this retreat?
We have a wide range of women who attend our retreats, from 15-70 years young. Each retreat will vary but Hawaii is for EVERYONE. Last year we had a wonderful Mother/Daughter pair that attended.
What if I am coming alone?
The majority of the women who attend our retreats come by themselves. Hawaii is a safe and easy country to travel as a single female.. Although you may come alone, you will leave the retreat with new, lifelong friends!
Tell me about the staff
The staff is an inspiring and spirited group of women!!! You will have the chance to play with women who are both phenomenal athletes and articulate teachers. The high staff-to-participant ratio allows opportunity for individual guidance, safe supervision for all activities and personal attention to your needs. When does the retreat begin and end?
The Retreat begins on Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Hale Kai house with dinner at 6:00. The Retreat ends on Saturday after breakfast.
Cancellation policy for domestic camps:
• If you must cancel, a $250 deposit is NOT REFUNDABLE*
• Full refund, less deposit, will be given with at least 61 days notice *
• Within 60 day to 31 days of your camp, 50% of the total (less deposit) will be refunded *
• Within 30 days of your camp, sorry but absolutely no refund will be given
*no exceptions will be granted to the above policy.*
Please note: We are sorry but injury and illness do not disqualify you from any of the above cancellation policies. We are UNABLE to transfer deposits or any payments from one year to the next.
We reserve the right to cancel retreats with inadequate participant interest, in which case all money paid to Women’s Quest will be refunded. Women’s Quest CANNOT be held responsible for any personal expenses, such as airline tickets due to changes in itineraries or tour cancellations.
