1) Body: BEST TIME FOR A WORKOUT: by Colleen
Have you ever wondered whether there is a “best time” for a workout? Unfortunately for some of us sleepyheads, the most valuable time is the first four hours after sunrise, according to John Doulliard, author of The Three Season Diet. (I recommend this book – the author is an Ayurvedic doctor and chiropractic sports medicine practitioner.) Doulliard reports that the body will gain the most benefit from a morning workout. High energy levels, reduction of
unhealthy cravings, and feeling of well-being will result. Try going to bed earlier, and experiment with how a mworkout can ENERGIZE you for the day. Give it a try!
2) Mind: BELIEF BUSTING by Gretchen
Pick a belief that you hold about yourself (one you’d like to change) and conjure up the OPPOSITE feeling. For example, if you believe yourself to be shy, conjure up the
FEELING of being gregarious, interested in people, a good conversationalist, etc. PRETEND! If you have a belief that you are sluggish, IMAGINE the FEELING of being full of energy, enthusiasm, and motivation. (You can draw from a past experience of some moment when you felt this way.) STAY ALERT for the miracles that will happen when you intentionally invite yourself to change and grow.
When you’re ready, take this to the next level and physically ACT OUT what you want to change. You may still be “pretending,” but now you are ENERGY IN MOTION, creating
new pathways for your brain to respond. Be sure to always generate the new FEELING that is the opposite of the feeling that you want to change. CHANGE THE FEELING AND YOU WILL CHANGE THE BELIEF.
3) Spirit: PATIENCE
The ability to listen to your own thoughts above the noise of the world.
4) Nutrition: BREAKFAST TREAT by Gretchen
A warm, creamy breakfast that is ready when you getup:
Put a cup of whole grains (rice, millet, wheat berries, etc.) into the CROCK POT with 5 cups of water. Add raisons, chopped fruit, nuts, and cinnamon. Turn it on LOW and it will cook overnight. Feeds 4. (The proportion is 1:5 grain:water)
It is COMFORTING to wake up to an already-prepared WARM breakfast. Eating warm grains in the morning is EXCELLENT for digestion, especially in the winter. Your system will
appreciate it if you drink cold juices and smoothies in the summer........in the WINTER, your body needs warmth and comfort for sustained energy and balanced emotions.
5) SOUL SPARK:
“You have to know what you want to get. But when you know that, let it take you. And if it seems to take you off track, don’t hold back because perhaps that is instinctively where you want to be. And if you hold back and try to be always where you have been before, you will
go dry.” - Gertrude Stein
6) WQ PICKS
While working a sweat during the winter months, it is important to wear clothes to protect you from the cold weather AND also wick away moisture. For the torso, we recommend the Energy Base Layer from Adidas. This shirt feels good, keeps you dry and warm, and even looks stylish! Check it out at the Athleta Catalog website:

There’s still space for you in the winter camp! The snow is great, and we have lots of fun and nourishing activities planned. This is a way to RE-ENERGIZE yourself for 2002!
